Teaching with Technology Award
The Teaching with Technology Award is a means to recognize the excellence of Old Dominion's faculty and their innovative contributions to the quality of teaching and learning through the application of information technology.
Please take this opportunity to help identify your colleagues who have made creative and effective use of technology to improve their courses and programs by nominating them for this award.
The requirements for the Teaching with Technology Award mirror those of SCHEV requirements for the Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching with Technology:
A nominee in the TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY category must possess a record of superior accomplishment in integrating educational/instructional technologies into the student learning process, resulting in enhanced and demonstrable learning outcomes. The nominee must demonstrate clear and compelling evidence of effectiveness and achievements in promoting and enhancing student learning outcomes via the integration and use of technology in instructional activities.
The award is presented annually to faculty members who, in the opinion of colleagues, the Chair, the Dean, the University Outstanding Faculty Awards Committee, the Office of Distance Learning, Office of Computing and Communication Services and the Provost, have advanced the art of instructional technology in the effective presentation of their courses.
Any full-time faculty member at Old Dominion University.
Award and Presentation
Award funds ($3000 per person, up to 3 awards) and a $1,500 department stipend will be provided to advance the use of technology in the classroom. The award will be presented at the annual Faculty Awards and Retirement Dinner, scheduled in May.
Nomination Process and Schedule for 2013
Nominations can come from colleagues, from students in consultation with a faculty member, or from self-nomination and must be submitted to the appropriate College Dean by February 27, 2013, with the endorsement of the Department/School Chair.
Nominations must include:
- a letter that describes the faculty member's creative use of information technology in teaching and its impact on the quality of teaching and learning in his/her course;
- a current CV and brief biography;
- any other materials that support the nomination, such as the URL address of any instructional materials that the nominee may have on the web; and
- student evaluations for the course(s) that incorporated the instructional technology. These evaluations must be included with the nomination and could be from the second and subsequent times that the course was offered. (Experience has shown that the first time a course is taught with a major new technological innovation, the student evaluations tend to be lower and not representative of the actual performance).
Each Dean will review the nominations from his/her College and submit up to two (2) College nominations by March 8, 2013. Please forward an electronic version of each nomination packet to Cheryl Woods, in the office of the Associate Vice President for Distance Learning, at email@example.com.
The University Outstanding Faculty Awards Committee, in association with the Office of Distance Learning and OCCS, will review the nominations from the Deans and make a recommendation on the Award winners to the Provost by March 29, 2013.
