Frequently Asked Questions About Courses

How do I get books?

  • Every effort is made to insure that textbooks and course materials are available to you in time for class.

Distant students normally obtain textbooks and required course materials by calling ODU Express, www.odudlbooks.com, at 1-800-621-4088. A credit card is required if ordering over the phone or Internet. Students wishing to order by personal check or money order may download an order form at the URL provided above and mail in their order.

Textbooks/coursepaks are sold at the two local higher education centers (Virginia Beach and Peninsula) during the first two weeks of classes

How do I submit assignments?

  • Those with a TELETECHNET site:

You'll submit your homework to your site, i.e John Tyler, Piedmont, Yavapai, etc. The site will then send directly to ODU Distance Learning.

Those WITHOUT a TELETECHNET site, outside Virginia only:

You will be required to use the Course Assignment Cover Sheet, attach with your assignment, and mail back to:

    Old Dominion University
    Distance Education
    127 Gornto Center- Mail Distribution
    Norfolk, VA. 23529

It is STRONGLY suggested that you mail all documents certified in order to have proof that you sent your assignment. ODU will not be held responsible if your information is lost in transit.

You can also try to make arrangements with each individual faculty member about delivery of assignments. Some faculty are willing to accept email attachments or faxes.

How do I find an exam proctor?

  • Students at sites are proctored at that site.  Students not near sites should contact Anita Wiggins-Bailey in Distance Learning at awiggins@odu.edu for proctor information.  Students in military CD-ROM programs (Navy College or MEM) should contact Bill Gideon in Distance Learning at wgideon@odu.edu.  Students who need to obtain a proctor locally should first contact their local university or community college testing center for a proctor.  Students in the military should contact their educational officer on base for proctoring.
