Navy College: Program Overview

Attention all hands! Do you want to earn a bachelors degree, and receive credit for your Navy training and related job experience? If the answer is yes, you've come to the right place. Welcome!

Old Dominion is proud to have been selected as one of thirty partner institutions in the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership to offer fully-accredited college courses and degrees to Naval personnel around the world. Distance degrees available from Old Dominion include the following:

In most cases, Old Dominion will provide upper-level (junior and senior) courses designed for degree completion. Students admitted are expected to have completed their lower-level general education courses by taking either equivalent college courses, credit granted for experiential learning, or credit based on examinations such as CLEP.

Old Dominion's courses are offered on the main campus in Norfolk, Virginia, and/or by a variety of distance learning methods including the University's TELETECHNET satellite delivery system which beams courses to over 60 locations in the continental United States and the Bahamas, Web-based courses, and CDROM courses. Through Navy College, Sailors will be able to take courses at their own pace and complete their degrees from any location in the world.

Old Dominion is a fully accredited four-year institution of higher education by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The University's six colleges enroll over 18,000 students in 65 baccalaureate programs, 64 master's programs, and 21 doctoral programs. Located in Norfolk, Virginia, the focus of major national and international military commands representing all of the nation's armed services including the Navy's largest fleet concentration area, Old Dominion has assumed a responsibility to serve the members of the armed services and their families. Several of the University's academic programs are specifically geared to support military personnel. Indeed, approximately 25% of the University's enrollment has a military connection, and many of the faculty and staff have themselves served in the armed forces.
