Old Dominion University Launches Master of Public Health, Track in Environmental Health
Available Fall 2007
Beginning in fall 2007 semester, Old Dominion University is offering a Master of Public Health (MPH) with specialty in environmental health. The program will be available on ODU's main campus in Norfolk, Va., and will be offered at particular ODU sites at a distance. Courses will be available in a hybrid blend of traditional and non-traditional teaching methods.
"This hybrid program is ideal for professionals currently working in public health practice who wish to earn an advanced degree for increased career mobility or to update professional skills and competencies," said Dr. Brenda Stevenson Marshall, associate dean for education in the college of health sciences at Old Dominion. "Students with a bachelor's degree in health science, public health, environmental health, and public administration will find this course of study appealing."
MPH courses available in fall include:
- MPHO 610, Introduction to Public Health Practice (Online), 3 hours, 3 credits
- MPHO 611, Social and Behavioral Sciences for Public Health; 3 hours, 3 credits (Every other Friday from 4:20 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., alternating with MPH 612)
- MPHO 612, Statistical Reasoning for Public Health; 3 hours, 3 credits (Every other Friday from 4:20 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., alternating with MPH 611)

The MPH program was designed to provide students with public health knowledge and skills for population-based research, management of health programs and organizations, community practice of public health, and to provide leadership for improving public health.
