Satellite Network Update
The satellite used for our broadcast operations, Galaxy 26, suffered a major failure yesterday which has caused a temporary shutdown of many of the satellite's systems, including our broadcast operations on the spacecraft. As a result of this failure, all Distance Learning satellite-based video broadcasting and VoIP audio return systems are currently inaccessible.
Professors are teaching their courses, which are being recorded and video streamed for live or archived viewing by students. Students at remote sites can access them in a variety of ways:
- In real time, using video streaming
- Via archive, using video streaming
- Via DVD, sent from the main campus to the remote sites.
To become a temporary video streaming student,
- Step 3: Go to the Distance Learning homepage (http://dl.odu.edu/) and click the final link marked Temporary VS Course Access. You will be prompted to log in, using your MIDAS ID and password (the same ones you use to access Blackboard). You can watch your course in real time or by delay using the archive function.
Please keep checking this site, as we will endeavor to keep you updated about our progress with our satellite delivery. As soon as the problem is fixed, you will return to your normal mode of class delivery.
