Overview
ODU’s Engineering Management program is founded in the solid principles of systems science and systems engineering, while exploiting the technical analysis tools of management science. The course work is designed to produce graduates capable of addressing issues related to the design, operation, analysis, and transformation of complex problems.
Particular emphasis is placed not only on the technical methods and tools necessary for success in technology-based enterprises, but also on the critical thinking skills essential to effectively communicate and manage completion of complex projects.
Graduates of ONPS/Prototype or BRES are eligible to receive 12 credit hours of advanced standing, leaving only 19 credit hours to be completed from ODU.
Admissions Requirements
MEM courses are available on portable media (such as CD-ROM, DVD) to graduates of the Navy Nuclear Power School Officer Program with qualification at a prototype, or of Bettis Reactor Engineering School (BRES). These students are also eligible to receive 12 credit hours of advanced standing based on their experience, leaving only 19 credit hours to be completed from ODU.
Students with qualifying undergraduate degrees and work experience, who are not graduates of NPS-O/Prototype or BRES may be considered to take MEM courses by portable media on a case-by-case basis. Pre-approval by the EMSE Department is required. These students do not receive 12 credit hours of advance standing. However, additional portable media courses are available to replace the 12 credits and allow students admitted through this process to complete the MEM degree.
All students who meet the above qualifications -- NPS-O/Prototype, BRES, or EMSE Dept pre-approval -- may take up to two courses as a non-degree seeking student while their application for the MEM program is being processed. All MEM students must be admitted and degree seeking before registering for their third course.
Please review Military Student Admissions for application details and admissions requirements.

Navy College "Program for Afloat College Education" (NCPACE) procedures govern course costs and operation for Navy students assigned to a sea duty command. For NCPACE students who are officially registered through their command, tuition is paid by the Navy.
Ashore: When students are transferred ashore, tuition becomes the individual's responsibility. Ashore students are fully responsible for payment of tuition coincident upon receipt of their registration. Eligible students ashore may use Tuition Assistance, Graduate Education Vouchers, or in-service Veterans benefits to defray tuition costs if desired.
