Tempus Fugit

Popsicle tongue!

This first half of summer semester has flown by. And in many ways it hasn’t gone at all like I planned. I started off by applying for a full-time job that would have started a career instead of another placeholder job. It would have meant a reworking of my school plans, but I was excited. Unfortunately I was not selected for the position. The upside? I’m still on track for a December graduation.

I’ve been working part-time and taking just one class since the spring semester ended. It’s been fairly easy to stay on top of homework assignments and still have some free time for summer fun. That ends this week because I’m picking up a second course for the second half of the summer. But first, let’s all pause for a moment of silence because half of summer break is over.

Whew. Where did it go?

For the rest of the summer I’ll be working through two classes: Assessment, Evaluation, and Improvement (SEPS450) and Social Media For Social Good (COMM395). Both will be a challenge in different ways.  So far, SEPS450 has me learning about methods to create good tests. COMM395 looks like it will open my eyes to using things like Facebook and Twitter for a bigger purpose.

I’m also trying to get as much quality time with my family. We’re enjoying the sunshine and being outdoors. Our garden is thriving and we’ve enjoyed a trip to the lake (Very cold water!), the drive-in movies (Bug bites galore!), and lots of popsicles.

My daughter is full of questions about “big kids school” since she begins kindergarten this fall. And I’ll begin my final semester with ODU this fall. For me the end is in sight. The easy pace of the summer semester will give way to the slog of a full course load this fall. With all the graduations I saw this spring, I’m eager for my own to arrive. I know it will be sooner than I can, but even with the realization that summer is half over, December seems extremely off right now. By mid-October I’ll think that graduation will never arrive.

I hope you all are enjoying your summer break or summer classes.
