Minimum Computer Specifications

ODU's Information Technology Services lists minimum computing requirements here.  They also have a quick browser to test to check for these requirements on your computer.

Web Conference Classes and Live Online Events

ODU Online web conferencing uses WebEx. It's compatible with Windows and Mac, and WebEx apps are available for mobile devices. 

Through ODU, you can also create your own WebEx meetings to connect with your classmates for group work or study sessions.

During the class or event, don't run any network-intensive applications on your computer, such as streaming video -- it can cause your web conference connection to lag or freeze.

Blackboard

Blackboard is ODU's learning management system. Courses may use Blackboard to deliver content, host discussion forums, and administer exams. It's compatible with Windows and Mac, and Blackboard Mobile apps are available for mobile devices.

Adobe Connect

2-way Software

A few classes may use 2-way conferencing software called Cisco Jabber. It's compatible with Windows and Mac, and and an app is available for Apple devices.

  • Download the Cisco Jabber application
  • Test your device: Anytime day or night, connect your Jabber client by typing "bigblue" in the text field (below your name in the menu bar) in order to verify that you are able to receive audio and video.
  • Technical support is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST/EDT (holidays and University closings excluded). Contact ATS Tech Support at 1-800-462-0959 or atstechsupport@odu.edu.

Portable Media

The option to take courses by portable media is limited to students with specific academic or military experience and training who are enrolling in specific programs.
