Video Streaming FAQ: What do I need to participate?

Computer Hardware & Software
Please see the Video Streaming Hardware / Software Requirements for specific information.

Internet Service Provider
To view the stream, you need a high-speed Internet connection such as a cable modem, DSL, T1, etc. A minimum of 500Kbps download and 100Kbps upload is required. A dial-up connection is not sufficient to view the stream.

You can verify if your connection is fast enough through the Web Browser Configuration Check.

ODU MIDAS Account
MIDAS stands for Monarch Identification and Authorization System, and coordinates identity and password management for the University community. Your MIDAS ID gives users access to the LAN (Local Area Network) and wireless LAN, Faculty/Staff and Student E-mail, Blackboard, LIONS2, the myODU portal, SpamTrap, and Footprints. To get more information about MIDAS, please go to the MIDAS web page.

Computer Skills
There are four essential areas of computer skills that are needed prior to beginning the video streaming project. In order to participate, you will be responsible for assessing your own skill levels. If you do not possess these skills, you might find it very frustrating to participate in this project or any technology-enhanced course at Old Dominion University. You might want to consider signing up for a Computer Literacy course at your community college. Please be aware that your instructor will not be teaching these skills as part of the course.
